Penn State Master Gardeners at the Market ~ Fri., May 12, 2017

Summer is the growing season in central Pennsylvania, and once again, members of the Penn State Master Gardener program will come to the Carlisle Country Market to answer your home gardening questions.

The Master Gardeners will be at the Market the second Friday of each month from May to August, 2017, on these dates and times ~

  • May 12, Friday – 9 am to 11 am
  • June 9, Friday – 9 am to 11 am
  • July 14, Friday – 9 am to 11 am
  • August 11, Friday – 9 am to 11 am

The Master Gardeners will hold their plant clinics at several venues this summer, and we’re pleased to welcome them to the Carlisle Country Market.

Spring Car Show and Chicken Barbecue at the Market ~ Sat., Apr. 29, 2017

The Spring Car Show and Chicken Barbecue will be held on the grounds of the Carlisle Country Market on Saturday, April 29, 2017.

The barbecue begins at 10 am and continues through the day until all the dinners are sold. For $8.50, a meal includes a half chicken, a baked potato, applesauce, and a dinner roll.

From 8 am to 2 pm, members of the Cumberland Valley Classic Car Club of Carlisle will display their classic and antique cars.

All to the tune of music from the 1950s and 1960s.

Have a classic car, but you’re not a member of the Club? You can display your car, too, for a $2 donation to the Club.

Model cars at Rada Cutlery and Collectablest

And don’t forget about our wonderful vendors inside the Market, too. They’ll be open all day from 7 am to 2 pm.

You might even find a model of a classic car at Rada Cutlery and Collectables to add your collection!

Get Your Garden Growing with Starters from Dobbs Produce

Vegetable and Herb Plants

Planning your own vegetable and herb garden this summer?

Dobbs Produce can get you started with a variety of vegetable and herb plants, including green leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, broccoli, spinach, cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, peppers, and tomatoes.

Herbs include oregano, sage, and dill.

Vegetable and herb plants are available from now until the Memorial Day weekend, May 25 through 27, 2017. After the Memorial Day weekend, Lee Dobbs will take orders for vegetable and herb plants.

Easter Bunny Hops Into the Market ~ Sat., April 15, 2017

On Saturday, April 15, the Easter Bunny will make his annual visit to the Carlisle Country Market. He’ll hop in at 10 am and stay until 12 noon, greeting children with Easter treats from his basket.

Bring your cameras! He’ll pose for photos, too.

And Saturday is also a good day to pick up those last-minute items you need to celebrate the Easter holiday.

At The Java Junky, Barb Brinton has all sorts of handmade chocolates for your Easter baskets – and Easter dessert.

And at The Bothe of Us, Tina Bothe has beautiful handmade and one-of-a-kind cross necklaces.

At Bartoli Produce and Dobbs Produce, you’ll also find fresh produce and vegetables for your Easter dinner table.

Highland Spring Farm offers fresh free-range eggs for your Easter baking and decorating.

Easter is coming up on Sunday, April 16, 2017, and it’s not too soon to put in an order for special Easter treats at the Carlisle Country Market.

At TJ Homestyle, Tony and Janet offer homemade bunny cakes – yellow cakes with frosting, covered in coconut with jelly bean eyes and nose. Your choice of white, chocolate, orange, and strawberry.

Place your order by Monday, April 10, by calling 717-249-3963. Pick up on Good Friday, April 14, or Holy Saturday, April 15.

At the Bair’s Den Café, Jacinda Bair is taking orders for a variety of Easter treats –

Homemade pies – Apple, Cherry, Peach, Blueberry, Fresh Strawberry, Key Lime, Pumpkin, Pecan, Shoo-fly, Lemon Meringue, Lemon Sponge, Coconut Cream, Banana Cream, Peanut Butter Cream, Chocolate Cream

Homemade desserts – Cherry Cheese Delight, Chocolate Éclair

Easter candy

At The Java Junky, Barb Brinton has hand-made chocolate, such as molded chocolate bunnies and chocolate eggs. She’s also taking special orders for Easter eggs in these flavors – peanut butter, coconut, orange cream, raspberry cream, cherry, butter cream, milk chocolate, white chocolate, and dark chocolate. Eggs are $1 apiece or 12 for $10. Molded chocolate items are available in milk, dark, and white chocolate, with prices starting at $1.25 and going up to $7. Easter baskets will be available, too.

Barb will take orders up to Monday, April 10. Place an order with Barb through her Facebook page, her website, or at her vendor stand at the Carlisle Country Market.

Orders may be picked up any time before Easter Sunday, April 16.

If you prefer fresh free-range eggs for your Easter breakfast or baking, Highland Spring Farm is your source. In fact, these eggs have more of the orange yolk desired for a better taste. They’re perfect for decorating, too.

Calla lilies are beautiful throughout the spring, but especially at Easter. At Dobbs Produce, Lee Dobbs will have Calla lilies in six different colors, including deep purple, yellow, and pink.

In addition to fresh fruits and vegetables, Dobbs Produce also offers flowers in the spring, from March to June.

In March, Lee Dobbs will have primrose, calla lilies, pussy willows, pansies, and Gerbera daisies.

For Easter, you will find calla lilies in several different colors, such as deep purple, yellow, and pink.

Until June, Lee will have hanging baskets of flowers.

Beginning the first weekend in April, Lee also has vegetable plans – green leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, broccoli, cabbage, kale, Brussels sprouts, cauliflowers, peppers, and tomatoes. These vegetable plants are available through Memorial Day weekend, at the end of May.

Come in and take a look this weekend!

New Wine at Jackson Square Vineyard

Jackson Square Vineyard introduces a new wine – Jacked-up-Concord.

A Pennsylvania red wine that takes a year and a half to make, Jacked-up-Concord is 18% alcohol. Bottles are $23 each.

While most samples are free at the Jackson Square Vineyard’s vendor space, Jacked-up-Concord samples are $1 each – however, if you purchase a bottle after a sample, $1 will taken off the price.

Come in and try this new wine soon!

Girl Scout Cookies at the Market ~ Sat., Feb. 25 and Mar. 4, 2017

This year, National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend runs from Friday, Feb. 24, to Sunday, Feb. 26, and the Carlisle Country Market will host local Girl Scout Troop 1319, from Boiling Springs, on Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017.

The girls will be selling a wide selection of Girl Scout Cookies at the Market from 8:30 am to noon.

On Saturday, Mar. 4, Girl Scout Troop 11627, from Carlisle, will also sell cookies at the Market from 8 am to noon.

Selling cookies teaches the Scouts several important business skills, such as people skills, business ethics, month management, goal setting, and decision making.

Come out this Saturday and next – Feb. 25 and March 4 – and support our local Girl Scout troops!
